Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain Veneers
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers (otherwise all-ceramic veneers) are thin shells made of porcelain. The result they give is amazing as they improve both the color and the shape of the teeth, while at the same time your smile looks completely natural.
Porcelain is a ceramic material very resistant to discoloration either from our eating habits or from other known pigments such as coffee and cigarettes. Also, porcelain veneers are very resistant to breakage.
They are one of the most advanced techniques of aesthetic dentistry, they are placed on the anterior surface of the teeth, improving their color, shape, and position.
In many cases, it is the appropriate treatment to improve your smile and they do not affect your oral health at all.

What is the procedure for installing porcelain veneers?
The first step in installing porcelain veneers is to schedule an appointment with the dental surgeon Mavrogenis Konstantinos. Talk to him to understand your expectations, but also to examine the condition of your teeth. This way he will be able to advise you if porcelain veneers are the right solution for you.
Once your dentist has advised you and you want to continue with their placement, the procedure consists of three appointments.
– At the first appointment, impressions of your upper and lower jaw are taken. Also, photos of the teeth are necessary. At this point, study models will be made where a wax model of your upcoming veneers will be formed. This allows you to see your future teeth in the next appointment.
It is important to mention that usually, for uniformity and the result of high demands, veneers are placed on 8 front teeth. In a wide smile, they may need 10, while in a smaller one only 6 are necessary.
The dentist sends your imprints to the laboratory he collaborates which begins their construction. The procedure usually takes a week.
– At the second appointment, you can see your future teeth on the model but also on you. If you agree with your future teeth, dentist proceeds in teeth preparation by removing a surface layer of your frontal teeth to create space for your veneers. Local anesthesia is recommended so that you do not feel the slightest discomfort. Then final impressions are taken which are sent to the lab.
– In the third and final appointment, Dr. Mavrogenis tests the veneers to make sure it meets your requirements and then bonds them in place making them almost impossible to peel off.
In which cases are porcelain veneers recommended?
The use of porcelain veneers is recommended when:
- We want unaltered white teeth that last over time.
- We want a natural and permanent result.
- We want to improve the color of one or more teeth.
- We want to improve the shape of one and/or more teeth.
- We try to fight cases of fine teeth, that is when we want to reduce the gaps between the teeth.
- We try to fight nanodontics.
In which cases are all-ceramic facades contraindicated?
For the application of all-ceramic facades, we need generally healthy teeth.
Due to their small size, they can not cover underlying problems as well as discoloration. So, teeth with previous amalgams (black fillings) or discolored from old endodontic treatments and teeth with extensive fractures limit us.
Additional cases where we can not apply porcelain veneers:
- In patients with gingivitis, periodontitis, and other periodontal problems.
- In teeth that already have a crown.
- In a tooth and/or teeth that are missing large parts of the dental substance.
- When the gap between the teeth is large enough and can not be filled with veneers.
- When the inclination of the tooth requires significant removal of the dental substance.
- In patients who grind or grit their teeth
- In any case, you should consult your dentist before any action.
The advantages of porcelain veneers
As mentioned above, porcelain veneers:
They make your teeth look perfectly healthy and natural
They are highly resistant to breakage
They do not absorb pigments and retain their color over time
Minimum possible preparation. Porcelain veneers need grinding only on the outside of the tooth and only a few tenths of a millimeter. The removal of tooth substance is limited to 0.5 – 0.7 mm, which means that we do not sacrifice a natural tooth to change the look of our smile.
How much do porcelain veneers cost?
The cost of installing porcelain veneers can vary from doctor to doctor. However, the cost is usually high due to the know-how and technical knowledge that the dentist who installs them must-have. Despite the high cost, when you have trusted the right scientist, the results you will get will definitely reflect the investment you have made in your smile. Also, their cost is higher than that of installing resin veneers, but accordingly, the difference in their aesthetics is incomparable!

How long do my veneers last?
Porcelain veneers are very durable. The material from which they are made has a lifespan of at least 15 years. But we can not guarantee it completely. It largely depends on the attention we show them. You need to be careful with bumps, just like with your natural teeth. In any case, if you follow the instructions of Dr. Mavrogeni, your veneers will remain like the first day you placed them for several years!
For comparison, the lifespan of resin veneers is up to 5 years.
How celebrities we watch on TV have such white teeth?
Usually, the wonderful teeth that we see in famous actors, singers, presenters, etc., are the result of porcelain veneers!
